Nightlife in Clearwater
No clubs, no velvet ropes: three honest pubs and the darkest skies on Highway 5.
Nightlife in Clearwater: the honest picture
Clearwater has about 2,400 residents and no nightclubs, no cocktail bars and nothing that stays open past midnight. What it has is three proper local pubs, karaoke nights, free pool, the biggest TV screen in town, and skies dark enough to make the Milky Way the real late show. If your idea of nightlife needs a DJ, Kamloops is 120 km south. If it needs a cold beer, a pool table and people who will know your name by the second round, you are in the right town.
The three pubs
Wells Gray Roadhouse
The liveliest room in town: the Inn's bar and grill pours local Ironroad Brewing pale ale, runs karaoke nights that reviewers rave about, and keeps sports on the screens. Kitchen hours run to about 9pm most nights, later on Saturdays -- call it a pub evening, not a late night.
52 Ridge Restaurant & Pub
A warm, family-style pub a short walk up the park road: free pool, the biggest big screen in town, prime rib dinners and a proper beef dip. The 4-10pm daily rhythm tells you everything about Clearwater evenings -- they start early and end friendly.
Old Caboose Restaurant & Pub
Dinner-and-a-drink in a building made from a real railway caboose: fully licensed, open from breakfast to 9pm, and the most Clearwater institution on this list. The Log Cabin Pub rounds out the town's roster of locals' bars.
How a Clearwater evening actually goes
Dinner lands early here -- many kitchens wind down by 8 or 9pm, so plan the meal first and the drinks after, not the other way round. Summer evenings are long at this latitude: it is light past 9pm in June and July, which is why locals spend them at Dutch Lake or on a patio rather than in a bar. Winter flips it -- dark by 5pm, and the pubs fill with ski-hill and sledding talk. Driving note: the corridor and Highway 5 are wildlife country after dark; if you are drinking, stay in town and walk, or nominate the driver before the first round.
