Teen activities in Clearwater
Real voltage: big water, a bike park and a waterfall you stand behind.
Teenagers in Clearwater: the voltage is real
The trick with teens in Wells Gray is that nothing needs dressing up: the river is genuinely rowdy, the waterfall genuinely walk-behind-able, and the cliff jump on the rafting trip is genuinely optional-but-there. What the park does not offer is signal -- phones become cameras out here, which families tend to file under 'feature'.
The teen-approved list
Whitewater rafting
Interior Whitewater's Ready Set Go (ages 12+, 90 lbs minimum) runs 14 km of class II-IV Clearwater River with volcanic canyon scenery and optional cliff jumping; Riverside Adventures runs a three-hour equivalent. This is the day teens talk about at school.
Walk behind Moul Falls
A waterfall you can stand behind beats a waterfall you photograph, every time. Add the gorge scramble (carefully -- wet rock) and it becomes the hike teens actually request.
Mountain biking at Candle Creek
A purpose-built bike park and cross-country network on the town's east side, plus rentals at Wells Gray Outfitters (444 Clearwater Valley Rd) if you did not bring bikes.
The lake, unstructured
Swimming wharf, warm water, paddleboard and canoe rentals at the lake -- the low-supervision afternoon every teen itinerary needs one of.
Winter: the hill + the sleds
Nine runs, a T-bar, no lift lines and a lodge full of locals: the anti-resort, which is precisely its credibility. Snowmobiling is the valley's other winter religion -- guided options run through local outfitters.
The honest limits
There is no arcade, no cinema and no mall; evenings are pub-pool (52 Ridge, families welcome in the restaurant side), the lake at dusk, and stargazing. Teens who need a city fix can be promised Kamloops -- 120 km south -- as the day-trip bribe. It rarely gets cashed in.
