Getting here
Getting to King: the gateway, the highway, and the train that already runs
King has a heliport and no airline service, a GO station that already runs, and a closed airport to stop routing through.
Getting to King Township: no airport, one gateway in another city, and a GO station that already runs
King is a township travellers reach on purpose: up Highway 400 from Toronto, across the moraine on Highway 9 and King Road, or off a GO train in King City. This page prints the arrival picture at the grade the operators' own surfaces settle it -- and refuses the three inventions this subject attracts: a bookable flight out of King, a Buttonville routing three years after that airport closed, and a road figure printed harder than its source allows.
King has NO airport of its own -- printed plainly, because airport guides for this township get it wrong. Its only in-town aviation facility is the King City / Kingbridge Heliport (identifier CKC3), a private, prior-permission heliport run by the Kingbridge Centre: real infrastructure, no public access, never a gateway. The historical King City Airport, by Highway 400 at the King-Vaughan line, was sold in the 1980s and is defunct -- its old tower is a construction firm's office. The gateway is one, and it is another city's airport, named as such: Toronto Pearson (YYZ), in Mississauga, at a straight-line class of 29.5 kilometres from King City, labelled as a class. Its road distance is deliberately NOT printed as a figure in this guide: the routing reads available at build contradicted themselves, so the honest copy is the class, the highway (Highway 400 south to Highway 401 west), and a check of the airport's own surface before you leave. Toronto's downtown airport (YTZ) is named for completeness only. And a stale-guide trap, closed for good: Buttonville Airport in Markham closed in November 2023 -- any page still routing King travellers through Buttonville is out of date. Layover: NO, at any duration -- King is an arrival base with its own operating rail station, not a hub.
The arrival picture, piece by piece
By air: Pearson, named as Toronto's airport in Mississauga
King has NO airport of its own -- printed plainly, because airport guides for this township get it wrong. Its only in-town aviation facility is the King City / Kingbridge Heliport (identifier CKC3), a private, prior-permission heliport run by the Kingbridge Centre: real infrastructure, no public access, never a gateway. By rail: King City GO, operating today
King City GO Station, 7 Station Road in King City, is an operating station -- that word matters, because this township's rail story is not a promise. GO Transit trains on the Barrie line have stopped here since 1982, between Maple GO to the south (Maple is Vaughan's) and Aurora GO to the north (Aurora's). The station carries a brick station building, 555 parking spaces on the published record, fare zone 62, and York Region Transit and Ontario Northland bus connections. Metrolinx's GO Expansion works are upgrading this operating station -- a west platform, parking and a pedestrian bridge, toward two-way all-day service -- an upgrade in progress, never printed as an opening. No VIA Rail station exists in King, and no fare or frequency is asserted in this guide: both live on GO Transit's own schedule surface.
By road: a Highway 400 township
King's villages sit on the township's own grid: King City on King Road just east of Highway 400, Schomberg at Highway 9 and Highway 27 in the northwest, Nobleton on Highway 27 south of Highway 9, and Ansnorveldt up Dufferin Street at the Marsh. The Municipal Centre is at 2585 King Road in King City. Distances between the villages are real country distances -- a King itinerary is a driving itinerary, and this guide never pretends a village hop is a walk.
Staying over: the township's one big roof, named at its own grade
King is mostly a day-trip and home-base township, and its one large roof is a conference property: the Kingbridge Centre in King City, an Arthur Erickson-designed venue built in 1989, with 124 guest rooms on its venue listings, extensive meeting space, pools and five kilometres of trails along the Humber River on its own description. It hosts conferences and events first; whether a given date takes individual leisure bookings is read on the venue's own surface, never assumed here. Beyond it, the township's stay layer is inns and farm stays at village scale -- Hogan's Inn in King City is the historic name -- and the deep hotel bench belongs to Vaughan, Richmond Hill and Toronto, labelled as theirs on the day-trips pages.
Common questions
Can I fly to King Township?
No. King has no airport: the Kingbridge heliport (CKC3) is private and prior-permission, and the old King City Airport is defunct. The gateway is Toronto Pearson (YYZ) in Mississauga, at a straight-line class of 29.5 km from King City.
Does GO Transit serve King Township?
Yes, today. King City GO Station, 7 Station Road, is an operating Barrie-line station, open since 1982, with 555 parking spaces and bus connections. GO Expansion works are upgrading the operating station; they are not an opening.
Is there a layover guide for King Township?
No. Layover is NO at any duration: King has no scheduled air service to connect through, and it is an origin-and-destination township at the end of a GO line, not a hub.
