Winter
Winter in King: the season the arenas were built for
Four pads, four curling sheets, snow on the moraine -- and a holiday weekend with two records, flagged.
Winter in King: the season the arenas were built for
Winter is King's home season. The township runs four ice facilities across three villages, its curling club plays October to April, its conservation area grooms the same trails for snowshoes and skis that it hikes in October, and its holiday season concentrates into one November weekend and a December main street. This page is the winter plan, at the strength each piece is verified.
the King Curling Club, which plays at the Trisan Centre in Schomberg -- Schomberg is inside King Township, so this is King's club, and no curling club is seated in King City village. The club runs leagues six days a week from October to April on four sheets, with an adult Learn-to-Curl programme and youth curling. Its 2026-27 registration closed at midnight on Friday, September 18, 2026, and its own surfaces carry dated items forward from here: pre-registration for Adult Learn to Curl Fall 2026 on Sunday, October 18, 2026 at 1:00 p.m., and the Olive Branch Bonspiel on Saturday, November 21, 2026 at 7:00 a.m.
The winter anchors
The pads: Zancor, Trisan, Nobleton and King City
the Zancor Centre, 1600 15th Sideroad in King City -- the Township's new anchor recreation centre, built on land leased from Seneca Polytechnic's King Campus and billed as Canada's first zero-carbon combined aquatics and ice-sports facility. It carries twin ice pads, a six-lane pool and a leisure pool, and a fieldhouse. Drop-in programming began Saturday, January 4, 2025 and the official opening was Sunday, January 26, 2025. It is the home rink of the King Rebellion (below). the Trisan Centre, 25 Dillane Drive in Schomberg -- the township's western recreation hub, inaugurated June 27, 2011. Under one roof: a 600-seat arena that is home to the Schomberg Cougars junior hockey club and Schomberg minor hockey, a fitness centre with an indoor track, and the four-sheet curling rink of the King Curling Club (below). The library keeps a book kiosk here, too -- in King, even the arena has a library corner. The Dr. William Laceby Nobleton Community Centre & Arena, 15 Old King Road in Nobleton, and the King City arena layer at 25 Doctors Lane complete the network; public skating and drop-ins are read on the Township's own programme surfaces, never derived here.
A Rebellion night
King's signature team is the King Rebellion of the Ontario Junior Hockey League -- Junior A hockey at the Zancor Centre in King City, where the Township's own opening release names the centre's rink as the Rebellion's home. The club relocated to King for the 2024-25 season and is current in 2026-27. No fixture is printed in this guide: home dates are read on the OJHL's official schedule, never derived from standings or aggregator surfaces. One tier down, the Schomberg Cougars play at the Trisan Centre, above a three-village minor-hockey system across the Trisan, Nobleton and Zancor rinks.
Trails in snow
King's trail ground is moraine ground. Cold Creek Conservation Area, at 14125 11th Concession near Nobleton, is the Township-run conservation area: forest, wetland and swamp trails for hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, an education centre, and dated Township programming -- a Forest Bathing session on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 is recent canon, and a Survivor's Den shelter-building programme for youth ages 8-18 is dated Saturday, October 10, 2026. Thornton Bales Conservation Area, near King City, is famed for its "99 Steps" and a roughly 4.5-kilometre loop through ravines with a greater change in elevation than the drop over Niagara Falls, on the conservation authority's own description. Happy Valley Forest is a large mature forest on the moraine, an Area of Natural and Scientific Interest and home to the Jefferson salamander -- the Township's own calendar dates a Guided Fall Forest Hike there for Wednesday, October 14, 2026, 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. The Oak Ridges Trail crosses the township, and the Township itself counts more than 100 kilometres of trails in King. No trail distance beyond the Thornton Bales loop is printed: no operator surface read settles the others, so they are described, not measured.
The holiday spine, and its one honest gap
Two holiday-market records for the same November weekend stand in King's record, flagged here and never merged. Arts Society King's King Artisan Holiday Market is announced by the society for November 21-22, 2026 at the Heritage & Cultural Centre, with 18 artisan spaces. The Township's own pages separately carry the One of a King Handmade Holiday Market, returning to the King Township Municipal Centre, 2585 King Road, on Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., free admission, with more than 45 vendors and over 500 shoppers recorded for its previous edition. Two producers, two venues, one weekend: read each organizer's own surface before choosing, and do not let any listing quietly collapse them into one event.
Schomberg's December anchor is dated, on the event's own site: A Main Street Christmas, Schomberg's signature Christmas festival on its historic Main Street, dated on the event's own site: Saturday, December 5, 2026, 3:00 to 8:30 p.m., presented by the Schomberg Village Association -- the Community Santa Claus Parade at 4:00 p.m., a Christmas market in Schomberg Community Hall, and the Farmers' Parade of Lights closing the evening; gate $8 on the day / $5 in advance, children 12 and under free, on the organizer's own published terms. The honest gap: Remembrance Day, Wednesday, November 11, 2026, prints in this guide with no King service time or place, because none was verified on a Township or branch surface in this research. The Township marks the day; an assumed cenotaph hour would be invention, so the closer's November re-read of the Township's own release is the settler, and until then the gap stands printed rather than papered over.
