Day trips

Day trips from Clearview: the bay shore north, the city south-east, the village down the road

Clearview sits fifteen minutes from two famous shores and forty from a city -- which makes its day-trip fan unusually strong. Here is the fan, with every destination kept in its own municipality.

The fan out of town, and back

This is the one family in the guide where the neighbours take the stage -- as destinations, out of town, framed exactly that way. Attribution is by seat, never by closeness: Collingwood to the north-west, Wasaga Beach to the north-east, The Blue Mountains to the west, and Springwater, Essa, Mulmur and Grey Highlands around the other borders are separate municipalities. Their beaches, ski hills, arenas and main streets are theirs, named as destinations when they appear, never absorbed. Two landscapes inside this township belong to bigger bodies and are credited to them every time: Devil's Glen is an Ontario Parks provincial park, and the Nottawasaga Bluffs are a Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority property. Simcoe County, seated in Midhurst, is the upper tier; its tourism and transit services are county services, credited to the County.

The distances in this guide are computed, not estimated: the origin is the Administration Centre, 217 Gideon Street, Stayner (44.418628, -80.088323 -- the registry point settled in the township's identity record); each destination is taken at its published central point; the straight-line distance is the great-circle (haversine) distance, the road estimate multiplies it by 1.35, and the driving time divides it by a 62 km/h average, rounded to five minutes. These are honest planning orders of magnitude -- the day's route itself is read on the road and on Ontario 511.

The fan, in three directions

North: the bay shore

Collingwood + Wasaga Beach

14 km straight-line (computed), about 18 km by road and 20 minutes' estimated driving puts the harbour town in reach for a half day: its main street, waterfront and shipyards history, in Collingwood's name. 13 km straight-line (computed), about 17 km by road and 15 minutes' estimated driving makes the beach day -- the world's longest freshwater beach is Wasaga Beach's own, in Wasaga Beach's name, and never printed as this township's.

West: the mountain

Blue Mountain Village (The Blue Mountains)

20 km straight-line (computed), about 27 km by road and 25 minutes' estimated driving for the resort village at the escarpment's other end: skiing in season, the village in every season, in The Blue Mountains' name -- the downhill counterpart to Clearview's own cross-country brow.

The loop + the city

Creemore (in-township) + Barrie

10 km straight-line (computed), about 14 km by road and 15 minutes' estimated driving is the loop's own village -- its own town guide, its own streets -- the shortest day trip that still feels like one. 32 km straight-line (computed), about 43 km by road and 40 minutes' estimated driving is the full-service run: the regional city on Kempenfelt Bay, its own surfaces, its own name.

The park next door, in its own credit

The closest outing of all is barely a trip: the Nottawasaga Bluffs are a run of of 17 km straight-line (computed), about 23 km by road and 20 minutes' estimated driving from the Administration Centre -- the NVCA's crevice-cave country near Singhampton, printed in this guide as a home walk in its own right, credited to the NVCA every time. Devil's Glen is a run of of 12 km straight-line (computed), about 16 km by road and 15 minutes' estimated driving -- Ontario Parks' valley, same discipline.

The return discipline

Every trip on this page is a there-and-back inside one day, and the discipline is printed with them: read the destination's own last entry and closing before you leave; drive County Road 124 and the sideroads after dark at the speed deer country asks, and in winter at the speed lake-effect country demands, with Ontario 511 checked before the run.

Common questions

What is the best day trip from Clearview?

For most visitors, Collingwood: a complete harbour town a short run north-west of 14 km straight-line (computed), about 18 km by road and 20 minutes' estimated driving. For sand, Wasaga Beach; for the resort day, Blue Mountain Village; for the village afternoon, Creemore -- in this township, on its own pages.

Is Wasaga Beach part of Clearview?

No. Wasaga Beach is its own town, a run north-east of 13 km straight-line (computed), about 17 km by road and 15 minutes' estimated driving, and its beach is printed in its own name everywhere in this guide.

Can you do Barrie as a day trip from Clearview?

Easily: the south-east run of 32 km straight-line (computed), about 43 km by road and 40 minutes' estimated driving -- it is the township's service city, and the Highway 400 gateway for the Pearson drive on this guide's airports page.
