Free things to do
Free in Clearview: the escarpment, the pond, the library and the parade
The township's best layer costs nothing: its trails, its pond park, its library programmes and its parade. Here is the free Clearview, with the paid anchors kept honest beside it.
What the township gives away
the escarpment in brief: Devil's Glen Provincial Park (Ontario Parks) for the Mad River valley and Bruce Trail; Nottawasaga Bluffs (NVCA) for crevice caves, the Keyhole Trail and 400 acres of brow forest; the Nottawasaga Lookout for the view. The walking layer is the free layer's core -- trail access on the provincial and conservation lands is read on their operators' pages (parking terms live there), and the Bruce Trail carries the long version through both.
Stayner in brief: the seat -- Administration Centre, the arena and library campus on Regina Street, Station Park on Highway 26, Main Street shops and the EcoPark trails. Station Park and the EcoPark are township parks: free, open and central.
The free layer, carded
The walks
Valley, brow and bluff: three escarpment walks at three efforts, on Ontario Parks and NVCA ground. The day's cost is the drive and, where the operator charges it, parking -- read at the source.
The programmes
Storytimes, clubs and community programmes on the Clearview Public Library's LibCal calendar -- the township's free indoor layer, in the seat and in New Lowell's schoolhouse branch.
The parade
Saturday December 5, 2026, 10:30 a.m. down Main Street in Stayner, on the township's calendar -- free to watch, with hot chocolate at the route's end on the listing.
The free evenings
In summer, the Thursday market's gazebo music and car display cost nothing to wander. Through the year, hall-board and library evenings carry free and by-donation forms alongside the ticketed Small Halls nights -- each read at its organizer. The distinction is printed, never blurred: the fair, the festival concerts and Winterama's button are paid forms, priced on their own pages.
The winter free layer
The escarpment walks in their snowshoe form, the EcoPark in winter, and the library's programme year carry the free winter. Highlands Nordic's groomed trails are the paid counterpart -- a ticketed ski operation, priced by its operator, never dressed as free.
The festival free layer
Winterama's weekend is built around a two-dollar button, and much of its street and park programming is wander-free by design; the Santa parade, the Thursday market's gazebo music and classic cars, and the library's whole programme year cost nothing. Free in Clearview is a layer, not a loophole -- each item is printed at the strength its organizer publishes.
