Hidden gems
Hidden gems in Clearview: caves in the bluff, a schoolhouse library and halls nobody drives to by accident
Clearview's best places are the ones the highway does not announce: a trail through limestone cracks, a lookout above the valley, a library in an old schoolhouse. Here are the quiet ones, with their evidence.
The quiet places, with their evidence
The escarpment is the township's wild half. Devil's Glen Provincial Park, on County Road 124 near Glen Huron, drops the Bruce Trail through the Mad River valley under the escarpment brow -- Ontario Parks ground, day-use hiking country, printed here as a park, never as a township facility, on ontarioparks.ca. West of it, the Nottawasaga Bluffs Conservation Area, at 8861 Sideroad 15/16 near Singhampton, holds about 400 acres of fissured limestone, crevice caves, hardwood forest and the Keyhole side trail under the NVCA -- the township's most dramatic walk, with homestead ruins and an old lime kiln on the way. The Nottawasaga Lookout and Noisy River provincial nature reserves complete the brow: lookout platforms, plaques and long views over the valley.
The gem pattern in this township is consistent: the escarpment hides the drama, the villages hide the warmth, and neither advertises. Each place below is real, seated and credited -- the park to Ontario Parks, the bluffs to the NVCA, the library to the township's system.
Three quiet places
The crack in the bluff
A side trail that threads fissured limestone and cool crevice caves under the brow -- the township's most surprising half-hour, inside the NVCA's 400 acres near Singhampton.
The schoolhouse shelves
The Clearview Public Library's New Lowell Branch keeps its shelves in the village's reclaimed historic schoolhouse -- a small room with a long memory, and the township system's most characterful branch.
The pond loop
Stayner's quiet walk: a pond, trails and picnic ground at the town's edge, minutes from Main Street and a world quieter. The locals' dog-and-thoughts loop.
The lookout
The Nottawasaga Lookout provincial nature reserve, on the brow west of Duntroon, pairs its viewing platform with historical plaques and the long valley view -- a provincial record, printed as one. It is the drive-up version of the Bluffs' drama: same escarpment, no caves, all horizon.
The hall nobody finds by accident
The Small Halls Festival's smallest rooms -- Sunnidale Corners, Nottawa, Dunedin -- are the township's true hidden venues: a concert where the parking is a field, the bar is a hatch and the band can hear every chair. September 18 to November 7 in 2026; the festival's grid is the map.

Stayner's township park of pond, trails and picnic ground -- the town's quiet walk, at its edge off the main streets.
