Clearview itineraries: a seat town, a wild escarpment and eleven communities on one loop
A Clearview visit is a loop, not a single street: Stayner for the civic core, the escarpment for the wild day, a village hall for the evening, and the fairgrounds for the big weekend. Here is how the pieces fit.
The assembly: the seat first, then the loop around it
Clearview is a township in Simcoe County, Ontario, under the Niagara Escarpment south of Nottawasaga Bay: 556 square kilometres of farmland, river valleys and escarpment country holding eleven communities -- Stayner, the municipal seat; Creemore; New Lowell; Avening; Dunedin; Glen Huron; Singhampton; Duntroon; Nottawa; Brentwood and Cashtown Corners. The township office is the Administration Centre at 217 Gideon Street in Stayner (705-428-6230). The timezone is Eastern (America/Toronto). A Clearview trip is never one main street: it is a loop between communities, each a short country drive from the next. The township's settled population is 14,814 (Statistics Canada, 2021 Census, settled in the township's identity record); a smaller figure that circulates in listings is not a census count and never prints in this guide.
The assembly principle is the loop. Stayner anchors the practical day -- arena, library, Station Park, Main Street. The western escarpment carries the wild day -- Devil's Glen, the Bluffs, the Lookout. The halls carry the evening, and the calendar carries the year: Winterama in February, the Classics in August, the fair in September, Small Halls through the autumn, the Santa parade in December. One community needs its boundary stated once, plainly: Creemore, in the township's south-east, is also a Dayfari town in its own right, with its own guide, its own market, brewery and festival records. This guide cross-links to Creemore's own pages where a Clearview loop naturally passes through the village -- and never re-prints Creemore's records as Clearview's. The village is a stop on the loop; its story lives on Creemore's own pages.
The three anchors, in the order they assemble
The seat day
Stayner in brief: the seat -- Administration Centre, the arena and library campus on Regina Street, Station Park on Highway 26, Main Street shops and the EcoPark trails. Add the EcoPark pond loop and a Main Street lunch, and the day is full without leaving town.
The wild day
the escarpment in brief: Devil's Glen Provincial Park (Ontario Parks) for the Mad River valley and Bruce Trail; Nottawasaga Bluffs (NVCA) for crevice caves, the Keyhole Trail and 400 acres of brow forest; the Nottawasaga Lookout for the view.
The hall evening
More than twenty events across the halls of Avening, Dunedin, Duntroon, Brentwood, Nottawa, Singhampton and Sunnidale Corners, September 18 to November 7 in 2026 -- pick the night's hall and drive to the music.
The two-day weekend, the settled assembly
Day one, the seat and the bluffs: Station Park and Main Street in the morning, the library campus and EcoPark at midday, then west to the Bluffs for the Keyhole Trail and the lookout views before the light goes. Day two, the valley and the hall: Devil's Glen and the Mad River in the morning, a farm-stand lunch, the Creemore cross-link in the afternoon -- the village's own guide carries its streets -- and a Small Halls concert to finish, in whichever hall the festival is playing that night.
The October version, the one on now
October is Small Halls season at full stretch and Witches Walk month: the Stayner Witches Walk runs Friday October 23, 2026, 5 to 9 p.m. from Station Park through downtown Stayner, on the Clearview Chamber's own listing -- scavenger hunt, decorated storefronts and gift draws. The GNE is just past (September 25 to 27), the markets are done or finishing, the escarpment is in fall colour, and the Siskins' season is starting at the Regina Street arena.
What no itinerary here promises
No itinerary in this guide borrows the neighbours' places as if they were this township's: Wasaga's beach is Wasaga Beach's, Blue Mountain's slopes are The Blue Mountains', Collingwood's harbour is Collingwood's. Attribution is by seat, never by closeness: Collingwood to the north-west, Wasaga Beach to the north-east, The Blue Mountains to the west, and Springwater, Essa, Mulmur and Grey Highlands around the other borders are separate municipalities. Their beaches, ski hills, arenas and main streets are theirs, named as destinations when they appear, never absorbed. Two landscapes inside this township belong to bigger bodies and are credited to them every time: Devil's Glen is an Ontario Parks provincial park, and the Nottawasaga Bluffs are a Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority property. Simcoe County, seated in Midhurst, is the upper tier; its tourism and transit services are county services, credited to the County.
Common questions
How many days do you need for Clearview?
One full day covers Stayner and one escarpment walk properly. Two days do the township justice -- a seat-and-bluffs day and a valley-and-halls day. The festival weekends (the fair, Winterama, Small Halls) each deserve their own trip.
What is on in Clearview in October?
The Small Halls Festival runs to November 7 across the township's halls; the Stayner Witches Walk fills downtown on Friday October 23; the Brentwood market closes its season October 9; and the Stayner Siskins' junior hockey season opens at the arena. The summer Thursday market and the GNE are finished until their next seasons.
Is Creemore part of a Clearview trip?
Yes -- as its own town. Creemore sits inside this township and has its own Dayfari guide with its own records. A Clearview loop passes through the village; this guide links to Creemore's pages rather than re-printing them.
